Jenny was warm and attentive, just as she had promised to be.

“Okay, I’ll do anything you say,” Betty said. “I don’t understand how come you’re being such a good friend to me?”

Jenny laughed. “I’m not really such a rotten bitch as you think.”

“I thought you were the cuntiest thing alive,” Betty confided.

“Maybe that was Leonard’s fault. Maybe Leonard made me act that way.”

“Yes, I realize that Leonard can drive a girl off the wall.”

“He nearly did that to you.”

“I heard that song from him, too, once.”

“And what did you do about it?”

“I laughed in his face.”

“But I wasn’t as smart as you were,” Betty said.

“I went all the way out of town with him, and he even got a house. I think he signed the lease and everything.”

“You don’t believe that,” Jenny said.

“Well, that’s what he told me.”

“He was putting you on, child.”

There was a long silence between them.

Betty didn’t know whether to believe what Jenny was telling her or not. After all, Jenny had no ulterior motives anymore. Leonard was not a bone of contention between them now.

“Let’s not talk about him,” Betty finally said. “It really makes me disgusted.”

They left the apartment and went up to Jenny’s place, where she changed from her butch cowboy outfit to something slinky and very feminine.

Betty marveled at the difference in her appearance.

“I’m like a circus performer,” Jenny said. “I do the act that’s going to bring on the audience’s applause.”

“Now this guy you’re going to introduce me to,” Betty continued, “is he in love with you?”

“Oh no, he knows my story.”

“You mean you’re giving me to some guy who’s pretty safe, so that you won’t be competition?”

Jenny nodded.

“I owe him a favor, and I think you are a real nice girl, and one that deserves a favor.”

Betty laughed and blushed.
